What is Low Code?

In times of the ubiquitous shortage of skilled workers and specialists, it is difficult for many companies to find affordable software developers. This is where Low-code platforms such as PhixFlow come into play: they enable you to create your own apps and solutions without extensive programming knowledge.

“Low code” is nothing more than a short version of “low amounts of code”. It generally refers to the development of applications using only a small amount of source code. Instead of manually writing endless strings of code, graphical user interfaces are used to assemble the application in question. In essence, a low-code platform works like something akin to a model construction kit. Using a convenient drag-and-drop system, anyone with basic-level IT knowledge – so-called “citizen developers” - can easily assemble their envisioned application with the preconfigured building modules included in the Low-Code “kit”.

What is Low Code Used for?

A low-code platform enables you to relate and consolidate different data sets and sources with each other and use them to develop solutions and applications according to your own ideas. Here are a few examples:

  • Connections
You’re currently using several systems and want to enable the different data sets to interact with each other? A low-code platform allows you to connect your ERP with your ITSM or your WMS, for example. This way, you can skip switching back and forth between your systems and instead, for example, directly link your budget plans to your ticket system.
  • Dashboards
You use different tools to manage customer data, support tickets and billing – your system works but you are missing a way to get a comprehensive bird’s eye view of specific scenarios like a completed customer life cycle? Using our Low Code platform, you can connect all data sources and create personalized dashboards with visuals highlighting the information you’re looking for.
  • Workflows
You want to optimize digital approval processes like vacation requests, business trips or expense reimbursements for your company and make them more efficient? With the help of Low Code, you can easily create and automate whole workflows for any given task to save time in the future.
  • Automations
You want to get a better grasp on the progress and success of your projects? Use Low Code to connect your project management tool, time recording and invoicing system, and simply have invoices or status reports generated automatically when specified trigger points, certain time quotas for example, are reached.

How Does a Low-Code-Platform Work?

Low-code platforms like PhixFlow are designed to make navigating and using them as user-friendly as possible. The most important features include:

  • Graphical User Interface
Maximum support through visual elements and tools instead of codes
  • Drag-and-Drop-Functionality
Intuitive operation thanks to the use of familiar application types
  • Reusable Components
Quick start with preconfigured modules, logics, templates, workflows, APIs, etc.
  • Visualizations
Ideas easily made visible with modeled logics, workflows, etc.
  • Customizability
Interfaces for user-defined code make further individual customizations and developments possible
